Heavily Armed Security Men Raid Former VP Namadi Sambo's House In Kaduna State

Heavily armed security operatives on Wednesday raided the residence of a former vice president, Namadi Sambo, in Kaduna.

The operatives are believed to have come from the State Security Service, SSS, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC.
An ICPC operative in the North-West zonal office of the agency in Kaduna, confirmed the raid to our reporter.

“Yes, we carried out a raid of the former Vice President Sambo’s house around 3:00pm today (Wednesday) with other agencies,” the operative said but declined to give further details because he has no official permission to speak to journalists.

“You can contact our headquarters in Abuja for details,” he added.

Umar Sani, the former media aide to Mr. Sambo, who also confirmed Wednesday’s raid said it was the fifth by security operatives on the house.
He accused Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress of allegedly intimidating people to scare possible contenders in 2019.

“This is not the first time they are searching the house. They have been coming to search the house on several occasions,” Mr. Sani said.

“Today they came with a court order and gave a copy of the court order to the Chief Security Officer in the house.

“After they finished the search, they wrote at the back page of the court order that they gave to the CSO that they didn’t find anything and they left.
“So we are not surprised because it has now become a routine activity,” Mr. Sani said.

learnt that the operatives arrived the newly renovated residence of the former vice president at No. 1 Alimi road in Kaduna, around 3:07 p.m., conducted their search and left at about 5:28 p.m.

“The heavily armed team came in a white Toyota Hilux, a Toyota Corolla and a Coaster bus, a Toyota Hilux van and a dark colored Toyota Corolla car.
“The Corolla was parked outside as the operatives numbering up to ten conducted the search within the residence while the others waited outside,” a resident of the neighborhood who witnessed the raid said.

A witness also told our reporter that some operatives blocked the major road leading to the residence to wade off motorists and other passers-by plying the road while other operatives went into the residence.

Mr. Sambo served as deputy to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan from 2010 to 2015.
reported how the ex-vice president in May held a closed-door meeting with Acting President Yemi Osinbajo.
It is not clear if the earlier searches mentioned by Mr. Sani were discussed at that meeting as details of the meeting were not disclosed.

NANS Rejects Tuition Fees Increase By Varsities

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) will resist plans by some tertiary institutions to increase tuition fees, its President, Mr Chinonso Obasi has said.

Obasi, in a statement he issued on Wednesday in Abuja, said that NANS had received the report that no fewer than 38 tertiary institutions had concluded plans to jack up tuition fees.

The NANS president said that the association was pained by the move as Nigerian students had over the years been made to bear the brunt of administrative ineptitude of managers of tertiary institutions.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) had on Monday alerted Nigerians to the increase of tuition fees by 38 universities due to poor funding by the federal and state governments.

He regretted that the APC-led administration had not showed enough commitment to improving the education sector and the plight of students.

He said that Nigerian students did not deserve such harsh punishment as fee increase would further limit the capacity of students to dream of a better future.

“Consequently NANS wishes to serve notice to the authorities concerned that Nigerian students will never endure any increase in tuition at this time of the nation’s socio-economic challenges.
“If administrators of Nigeria’s educational institutions have run out of ideas of funding and sustaining educational institutions in the country, they should feel free to liaise with students to explore new ways of funding the institutions.
“The President Buhari administration should recognise that this is time to reward the understanding and cooperation of Nigerian students with education subsidy, proper funding of education and adequate welfare initiatives for students,’’ he said.

'We drank our urine to survive' – Nigerian lady who spent 10 days in the Sahara Desert

A Nigerian woman who wanted to travel to Europe via Libya for greener pastures was lucky to be rescued alive in the Sahara Desert after 10 days.

Adaora said she had to drink her urine to survive

A 22-year-old Nigerian lady who thought she was leaving the country for greener pastures in Europe but ended up spending 10 days in the Sahara Desert has told of her heart-wrenching experience.
The lady who has been identified only as Adaora, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), that she and others who were stranded in the desert had to resort to drinking their urine to survive when they had no more option.
Adaora was one of 50 migrants abandoned in the desert by human traffickers after they had left Agadez in the Niger Republic for Libya but were abandoned by the traffickers who left with all their belongings including food and money.

Adaora who was one of the lucky few to survive after the death of many of the migrants narrated how they faced death but by divine intervention, managed to survive.
Narrating her experience, Adaora said:
“We were in the desert for 10 days. After five days, the driver abandoned us. He left with all of our belongings, saying he was going to pick us up in a couple of hours, but he never did.
Two days after we were abandoned, 44 of the migrants died, leaving six of us and we decided to start walking to look for help.
Those that died were too weak to keep going. We buried a few, but there were just too many to bury and we didn’t have the strength to do it,” Adaora said.
She added that she collapsed while walking and two of the other migrants carried her until they met a truck driver.
“We had to drink our own urine to survive. I couldn’t walk anymore. I wanted to give up.”
The six of them, she continued, were rescued by a truck driver who took them to local authorities who then alerted International Organisation for Migration (IOM), an arm of the United Nations, in Dirkou, Agadez.
IOM, in a statement, said it rescued no fewer than 600 people since April 2017, through a new search and rescue operation that targeted migrants stranded in the Sahara Desert.
The agency, however, regretted that 52 migrants died over the period, according to the statement released on Tuesday.
“We are enhancing our capacity to assist vulnerable migrants stranded in Northern Agadez, towards the Niger-Libya border. Saving lives in the desert is becoming more urgent than ever.
Since the beginning of the year, we have been receiving frequent calls to rescue victims who embark on this route‎,” Giuseppe Loprete, the Chief of Mission for IOM in Niger said.
On June 9, 2017, another 92 migrants were also rescued through an IOM search and rescue operation, among them were 30 women and children. More recently, 24 migrants were taken to Seguedine, where one died on arrival.

“Among the 23 survivors are migrants from Gambia, Nigeria, Senegal and Cote d’Ivoire. It was not clear for how long they had been walking in the deserts of central Niger.
They had been in a group of 75 migrants in three different cars, eventually abandoned by smugglers during the journey north,” Loprete said.

‘PASTOR ACCUSED OF DEMANDING FOR SEX FROM AN EMPLOYEE

Pastor Excel Ogbeide of FOUR SQUARE GOSPEL CHURCH has been been accused of demanding for from 4 female employees of a company known as International Recruitment Services, owned and managed by the pastor and his wife.

Picture of the 4 victims is attached, numbered 1 – 4 is shown below, together with a picture of the Pastor and his wife. According to the complaint that came to DPA, the Pastor refused to pay salary and commission owed because the staff refused to agree to sex.

At this point, this is only an allegation and the Pastor is presumed innocent of any crime until convicted in a court of law. But clearly, the complainant has presented sufficient evidence to warrant DPA to demand that the outstanding salary and commission be paid immediately’.

Wicked Father Abandoned His 3-Year-Old Son In Hospital At Cross River

Three-year-old kerosene explosion victim, Ozillia Alex-Adjissi, has been allegedly abandoned by her father, Alex, at the University of Calabar Teaching Hospital (UCTH) in Calabar, Cross River State after losing her mother and brother to the explosion.

The case was one of several explosions reported earlier this year, when adulterated kerosene flooded Calabar.

Ozillia’s mother and brother, who were also affected by, died of severe burns.

A Good Samaritan, Mrs. Theresa Etido-Umoren, who had gone to visit her relation in the Intensive Care Unit of the UCTH noticed Ozillia’s situation took it upon herself to bring the situation to the public.

Her outcry had attracted the attention of members of the Calabar-Municipal branch of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), which intervened with a donation of N20, 000 and a follow up of another N50, 000 yesterday.

Etido-Umoren said, “I noticed her when I went to the ICU to visit my cousin who later died. I noticed this little girl, Ozillia, and I made inquiries about her. In the course of my inquiries I found out that nobody was caring for her.

“The hospital staff had taken her like their project. I had to go and see the head of Anaesthesia department and told her what I could do and they gave the go-ahead. The staff at the Anaesthesia department had taken up the responsibility of caring for her when they discovered that her father had stopped coming to see her.

“The child had been in the hospital for about two months without the father. The child’s mother and brother had died in the fire incident. So, I had to reach out to people and the first donation came from Seadogs.

“From what I understand, the father is from Benin Republic and the mother was from Akwa Ibom State but they were not legally married before this incident. In addition to the grief of losing his family, he was made to marry the corpse of the mother before the burial.”

Etido-Umoren urged members of the public to support the victim in order to complete the remaining surgeries.

The Head of Department of Anaesthesia, Prof. Stella Eguma, who manages the ICU, said the three-year-old girl had just undergone her first major surgery.

She said, “We have been taking care of her for some time now, while public spirited human beings like you have just stepped in now. She just had the first surgery. She will need a lot of grafting because the skin was not enough. It is going to be a long recovery process and we are happy that she is responding.”

President of the Calabar Municipal branch of NAS, Mr. John Nya, said the association felt touched by the development and had to intervene immediately.

“This matter was brought to our attention just three days ago and we instantly swung into action by sending in N20, 000 through the lady that brought up the matter. We have again brought another N50, 000 and it will not stop there. In fact, in the next two days we would have given N100, 000 for a start.

“The situation of this little Ozillia is very traumatic. We will drum support for her treatment. It is a worthy cause. We, as an organization, have always identified with the less privileged and we will continue to do that within our resources,” he said.

In March this year 17 persons were admitted to the UCTH following severe degrees of burns meted on them as a result of an explosion linked to kerosene adulteration. One of them had died then.

Commissioner for Health Dr. Asibong Inyang who had visited the victims at the hospital had promised that State Government would investigate the occurrence and bring to justice those behind the adulteration.

Army Invades, Turns Lagos Hotel Into Operational Base

The management of Little Palace Hotel, Ishawo, Ikorodu, Lagos State, has accused the Nigerian Army of forcefully taking over its facility.

It alleged that the manager of the hotel, Friday Imhanzuria, was arrested and detained for over two months at the Nigerian Navy Base, Apapa, for demanding the reopening of the hotel.

The counsel for the hotel, Moses Okosun, said although the incident happened sometime in July 2015, efforts by the management to seek audience with the military authorities did not yield result until February 2017, when the Army said the Lagos State Government authorised the use of the hotel.

Okosun said when he wrote the government seeking explanation, the state denied knowledge of authorisation, demanding proofs that it gave the order.

He said the hotel was considering suing the government for damages, adding that losses running into millions of naira had been incurred.

PUNCH Metro gathered that Little Palace was one of the two hotels on Tapa Street, Oke-Oko, Ishawo, a community under militant siege.

It was learnt that as the clash between security operatives and the militants intensified, many residents fled their homes, just as the two hotels in the area were shut sometime in June 2015.

Our correspondent was told that when the military entered the community, the two hotels were occupied and used as military bases. However, the owner of the second hotel met the authorities after a month and his property was vacated by soldiers.

The manager of Little Palace Hotel, Imhanzuria, said when he approached the military as well, he was arrested.

He said, “The hotel was opened in November 2014 and the owner, Mr. Ehioze Aimuan, is based in Italy. He asked me to manage the hotel. When the clashes between the militants and security agents increased and some DSS officials were killed, people fled their homes. We also shut the hotel.

“But the Nigerian Army broke the door and turned the place into a base for its soldiers. We waited for a few months, thinking they would leave, but they didn’t leave. My brother advised that I approach them.

“When I got to their barracks at Odogunyan, Ikorodu, I was arrested. I spent 24 hours at the barracks before I was transferred to the Nigerian Navy Base, Apapa. I spent over two months there. They alleged that vandals stayed in my hotel and I must produce them.

“I denied the allegation. They kept me there for over two months and later released me without any charge. I was told that my family spent over N250,000 before I became a free man.”

Imhanzuria said while the military continued to stay in Little Palace, they returned the second hotel to the owner, who had political connections.

The hotel lawyer, Okosun, told PUNCH Metro that the soldiers, after converting the hotel into their operational base, consumed assorted wines and food stored in the facility.

PUNCH Metro sighted correspondences among Okosun, the Nigerian Army and the state government over the matter.

Okosun, in a letter dated February 7, 2017, and addressed to the General Officer Commanding, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, called the attention of the GOC to the invasion, saying the hotel management needed an explanation.

The Army, in a letter dated February 23, 2017, and signed by one Colonel S.J.A. Ilori for the GOC, said soldiers had been withdrawn from the facility.

“I am directed to acknowledge the receipt of your letter. I am further directed to inform you that the military personnel deployed in the Little Palace Hotel nicely withdrew for some administrative purposes. Consequently, I am to add that you forward all enquires with regard to the hotel to the Lagos State Government who authorised the use of the facility for the soldiers for the conduct of their operation accordingly,” the letter read in part.

Okosun, in a letter to the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Lagos State, demanded investigation into the occupation of the hotel.

“The said hotel is still under lock and key despite the ‘nice withdrawal’ of the soldiers. Our client does not know the person or agency in possession of the key to the premises,” he said in the letter, dated March 7, 2017.

The state government, in letters dated April 4 and 11, acknowledged the receipt of the March 7 letter, saying it was receiving attention.

But in a response dated April 27, 2017, one Mrs. Akhidime Monisola, a principal state counsel who wrote on behalf of the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, said the government could not confirm it handed over the facility to the military.

She said, “In your letter, it was alleged that the Lagos State Government authorised the use of the hotel for soldiers for the conduct of their operation, but there was no reference to the particular ministry, department or agency of the Lagos State Government involved.

“I am directed that you forward all relevant documents to sustain the allegations levelled against the state government to the Office of the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice.”

Okosun, in his reply, dated May 16, 2017, berated the government for the illegal occupation of the hotel.

He said, “We find it ridiculous and utterly preposterous that our client, who is a victim of the illegal and unconstitutional authorisation granted by the Lagos State Government, is the one being asked to provide documents evidencing the illegality of government’s action.

“The assertion was categorically made by the highest echelon of the Nigerian Army in Lagos. Rather than engage or confront the military authority that made the assertion, you now require our client to provide the documents. If we may ask, was our client privy to the request of the state government to the Nigerian Army for internal security support?

Was our client a party to the arrangement to confiscate his private property for the use of the Nigerian Army? Has the army denied authorship of the letter we forwarded to you?

“We are amazed that the Lagos State Government can perpetrate such illegality and reprehensible act as confiscating the property of a private citizen in a constitutional democracy.

Such brazen acts of illegality were unknown even when Nigeria was under the jackboots of martial governance. It is shameful and utterly reprehensible that the present administration, a civilian regime, can authorise such illegality.”

He said the hotel had suffered losses in excess of N50m since the incident occurred.

He lamented that letters addressed to the Governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode; Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, had gone unreplied.

When our correspondent contacted the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, 81 Division, Major Sydney Mbaneme, he promised to call back, but had yet to do so as of press time.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde, did not pick his call and had yet to respond to a text message requiring his response to the invasion.

Afrikaanse Protestante Kerk doesn't welcome black people even after two decades of apartheid

Nigerians lose N20m monthly to POS robberies as banks/police look on

Nigerians lose N20m monthly to POS robberies as banks/police look on

Findings have revealed that bank customers in Nigeria lose at least N20 million monthly to robbers and other criminals using the point of sales (POS) devices.
This is coming in spite of a policy by the Central Bank of Nigerian (CBN) that banks whose network is used for such act will be sanctioned.
Police sources said there has been an increase in cases of victims of robbery and other malpractices through the use of the device, which recorded a minimum of 25 reported cases monthly, with several others unreported since 2015.
Lagos, Port Harcourt, Onitsha, Aba, Warri and Abuja are known as the “hot spots” for such crime.
Cases of people falling victims to robbery, with POS in use, have become more rampant between 2015 and 2017, but without any bank assisting victims to recover their stolen funds.
Police have also not prosecuted any culprit or banks in Nigeria whose network is used by fraudsters to transfer funds from victims’ accounts, aided by the portable device.
Members of the public have complained of often being held hostage by armed robbers, who force them to transfer cash from their personal accounts, with the automatrd teller machine (ATM) and via POS.
Even police have confirmed that there had been an increased number of reported cases of victims of forced transfer of cash, which banks claim they could not trace to any known account holder.
But Lagos Police command spokesman, Badmus Opeyemi, confirmed that of several financial crime cases reported, none is left uninvestigated.
He said Lagos as a vast metropolitan city state has its own peculiar nature of crimes, including fraud and armed robbery.
“But we seek cooperation of the banks in getting to their roots.
“I cannot give exact figure of fraud specifically carried out through POS, but it is big enough,” he stated.
Narrating his ordeal in the hands of robbers recently, a senior staff of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), name withheld, said he boarded a commercial bus to Murtala Mohammed Airport, Ikeja, from Ipaja for an early-hour flight to Abuja, and that unknown to him, the occupants of the bus were armed robbers.
“They held me hostage for a while, rough handled me before eventually bringing out their POS device. I was forced to insert my ATM card and my PIN number. Thereafter they transfered all the money in my account into theirs before pushing me out of the bus.
“When I regained consciousness, a passer-bye picked me to the nearest police station where I lodged the complaint.
“But they said I was the 20th victim of the same incident, within the same week, declaring that they could not do anything since there was no record of the bus number or any documentary evidence of what I complained of,” he said.
But attempts to get any of the banks to speak on the issue failed as they said most victims of such crimes hardly come to lodge complaints with any evidence.
But the CBN spokesman, Isaac Okoroafor, said there is a standard rule on any bank that links POS to its network.
He said customer’s profile is supposed to be with the issuing bank of POS and should from time to time update all transactions executed through the device to enable them check cases of money laundering.
“The POS are for corporate organisations, or individuals whose type of businesses are known by law.
“However, banks are still held accountable for any abuse that is reported in the system, as CBN has its rules guiding all on-line banking services at both paying and receiving ends,” Okoroafor said.
From the look of things, neither the banks nor the security agencies has perfected plans to put a check on this new approach to financial crime.

You Are Toying With Fire, Former Police Commissioner Warns Nnamdi Kanu

A former commissioner of police in Lagos state Abubakar Tsav has said that the leader of the Indigenous People of Bifra (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu is toying with fire with his current agitation for Biafra.
Tsav while reacting to the renewed Biafra agitation led by the IPOB leader said Odumegwu Ojukwu who led the Nigeria-Biafra war warned against such acts.
“Every person who was born before 1960 knows exactly what has happened in this country. We had this problem when there was military coup and only a section of this country was targeted. Their leaders and senior military officers were killed by a section of the society and these people happened to be the Igbo,” Tsav said in an interview with the Sun.
“Aguyi Ironsi was made the President. He came and unified the whole country without consultation with anybody. Then there was this counter coup and that was when the problem started and the Arewa people started agitating that ‘Araba’ ‘Araba’. That was the genesis of the problem.
“As regards asking people to go back to their place of origin, it is not the Arewa people that started it. It was the Igbo that started it. It was the Igbo who invited every Igbo man living in other places to go back to the east. And that was the beginning of the war,” he said.
He said the IPOB leader seems to be towing on the same path Ojukwu had warned against.
The former commissioner further called on the federal government to tackle seriously, the quit notice issued to the Igbos living in the North by a Northern youth group.
“And that was when I was a young police inspector. That was why we were transferred from Lagos to Kaduna to replace those Igbo that answered to that call. So, the call by the Arewa Youths is reminding us of the sad old days and it is not good.
“They must have done it out of anger and frustration because upon all that these Igbo have gained in this country, everyday they keep insulting and abusing us; calling us all manner of names and we have distinguished Nigerians among the Igbo who ordinarily should call these people to order but they are not calling them to order.
“I remember I saw a video where Ojukwu said he did not regret fighting for Biafra but he also advised the Igbo that nobody should try to do that again because with the number of people who died and the number of those who lost their properties, it was not worth it.
“He said in that video that he was proud to lead the Biafran war but that he wouldn’t advise anybody to go that way again. But when Kanu started, nobody among the prominent Igbo said anything to condemn it. They were allowing Kanu to say whatever he wants.
“I want to appeal to all the leaders in this country, be it Igbo leaders, Arewa leaders, Yoruba leaders and others to try and douse this tension. If the Arewa youths should insist that Igbo should go back to their area, we are creating another avenue for civil war. And no country fights two civil wars and survives it,” Tsav said.
The former governor of Kano state Rabiu Kwankwaso said Kanu has all the potential to win an presidency in 2019.
Kwankwaso said the IPOB leader could ride on his popularity to contest and win an election in 2019.
The former governor further called on South-East governors to dissociate themselves from the ongoing Biafra agitation to prove their loyalty to Nigeria’s unity.

"I Can't Kill My Child" - 16-year-old Zainab Isah, Impregnated While In Boko Haram Captivity Speaks

In a heartbreaking video shot by The Vice on Youtube, 16 year old Zainab Isah spoke of how she and other girls in her community in Yola, Adamawa state were abducted and married off by Boko Haram members. While being held captive, one of her abductors got her pregnant.  She soon became traumatized that she had to escape from the sect members and returned to her community where she is currently being ridiculed for keeping the baby of a Boko Haram member.

The 16 year old teen says she cannot kill her unborn child because doing that then makes her a killer and in no way different from her abductors. Zainab who hoped for a girl child because some  community members had vowed to kill her child if it were a boy, is deeply sad as a recent scan confirmed she is having a boy.

Supreme Court Okays Part Of Trump's Travel Ban

President Donald Trump got an OK from the country’s Supreme Court on Monday to implement part of his controversial travel ban against nationals of six muslim nations.

The court revived parts of Trump ban on people from six Muslim-majority countries ,allowing his temporary ban to go into effect for people with no strong ties such as family or business to the United States.

The court agreed to hear oral arguments during its next term starting in October so it can decide finally whether the ban is lawful in a major test of presidential powers.

In a statement, Trump called the high court’s action “a clear victory for our national security,” saying the justices allowed the travel suspension to become largely effective.

“As president, I cannot allow people into our country who want to do us harm. I want people who can love the United States and all of its citizens, and who will be hardworking and productive,” Trump added'

Chief of Air Staff in recruitment scandal, accused of giving North 80%

Chief of Air Staff in recruitment scandal, accused of giving North 80%

A civil rights organisation, Campaign Against Military Impunity, has raised the alarm over alleged recruitment scandal in the Nigerian AirForce.
The organisation alleged that the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadiq Abubakar, had compromised standards in the recruitment exercise for non-commissioned officers from the core North.
Presently at the Airforce Base in Kaduna, there is ongoing pre-training formalities and tests for successful recruits, where 80 per cent of them are Northerners, CAMI alleged.
The Executive Director of CAMI, Victor Coker, told journalists in Abuja, that the government should carry out an audit of the exercise and courses going on in all the military training institutions.
“To unravel this misnomer, there should be an audit of the courses going on in all the training institutions. The audit should look at the composition and last three batches of those in training”, he advised.
Coker said, “They were supposed to take 68 persons in each state; but after the normal recruitment, the Chief of Air Staff now brought over 2,000 names spread across the core Northern States. Out of this figure, only 30/40 was given to the South. This is not the first time it is happening. Such things have been done in DSS, EFCC, and even police, Army and the Navy.
“We keep on preaching One Nigeria, One Nigeria. But behind the empty slogan of One Nigeria lies bare-faced hypocrisy and grand design to sentence part of the country to perpetual slavery.”
According to him, Northerners have been so smart to shortchange the entire South even during previous population census exercises conducted by the National Population Commission (NPC),
“How can the desert be more populated than the tropical rain forest? This was how the population census was done before independence”, he queried.
But when contacted, the Director of Public Relations and Information in Nigerian AirForce, Air Commodore Olatokunbo Adesanya, denied the allegation.
He said, “I think it is most advisable that the list of the people recruited should be made public first. Then, those making the claims can painstakingly go through the list. If there is any state that is not fairly represented, then, let them raise the alarm, rather than be speculating. A list is not yet out, yet people are speculating that the North has been favoured.
“Don’t forget that each state should be fairly represented. If you have certified people and everybody in a state are not medically qualified, are you going to disregard everybody in that state? We operate with the highest standards and we do not compromise on standard, either medical, physical or academic.”

You’re not emperor of S’East, mind your utterances, APGA tells IPOB leader Kanu

Nnamdi Kanu, APGA on IPOB no election in Anambra

The declaration by leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, that people should not participate in the coming Anambra State governorship election has drawn the ire of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
The political party described the call as irresponsible and warned him to stop seeing himself as an ’emperor’ of Ndigbo, advising him to humble himself to the true leadership of Ndigbo.
Kanu had while addressing his IPOB members in his home town in Abia State declared that there will not be election in Anambra in November this year and in any South-East states during 2019, general elections.
But in a letter, APGA, the ruling party in Anambra sent to Kanu through the party’s national publicity secretary, Ifeatu Obiokoye, called on the IPOB leader not to be carried away because of the present support agitation for Biafra is receiving among many Igbo people due to injustice meted out on them.
While the party acknowledged him as IPOB leader, it however warned him to understand he has no such power to speak for the region.
According to APGA, what the South-East truly wants is restructuring and implementation of the 2014 National Conference resolutions.
APGA said Kanu’s “call for a boycott of elections in the South-East, beginning with the governorship polls scheduled for November 18, 2017 in Anambra is irresponsible, irredentist and totally devoid of any focus.
“You must appreciate that for different logical reasons and perception, the Biafra concept has attracted favourable comments among our people, ostensibly borne out of the marginalisation of Ndigbo in the Nigerian state.
“While youths of the East are agitating for Biafra, the Arewa youths are equally restive; the same goes for Níger Delta youths and youths from Oduduwa states.
“In this popular agitation for Biafra, Ndigbo have not instituted a separatist movement or a terrorist gang as it were. We are more concerned about the continued existence of Nigeria under the present structural arrangement.”
Kanu, the party further advised should not allow the success of the May 30 sit-at-home call, which among other reasons including fear, was observed by the people to deceive him.
APGA said that the right to vote and be voted for was a universally declared right under the United Nations Charter of People’s and Citizenship Right, and in the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
Insisting that Kanu must stop seeing himself as an “emperor” APGA asked him to “humble yourself to the true leadership of Ndigbo for a proper and better articulation of the Biafra struggle”.

2017 Budget: Nigeria Is In Big Trouble – Minister Of Power, Fashola Says

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola has continued to trade words with members of the National Assembly over tampered 2017 Budget which recorded some added projects by Lawmakers.
According to the Minister, Nigeria is in big trouble if lawmakers do not understand the difference between cash and budgets.
Fashola had earlier complained that some provisions of the budget violate the nation’s constitution. The National however clapped back that the Minister was spreading ‘half-truths’ about the controversial Budget.
The former Lagos Governor who spoke in a statement signed by Hakeem Bello, his special adviser on media, said it will not be out of place to seek a resolution of the conflict between the executive and the legislators at the supreme court.
He alleged that the national assembly was more interested in small projects that are not life-changing.
In the case of the Second Niger Bridge where one of the spokespersons alleged that the provision in 2016 budget was not spent and had to be returned, Fashola said that this displays very stark and worrisome gaps in knowledge of the spokesperson about the budget process he was addressing.
Fashola said the focus on contracts by the spokesperson of the house of representatives is probably a “Freudian slip that reveals his mindset”.
He said: “Budget is not cash, it is an approval of estimates of expenditure to be financed by cash from the ministry of finance. The ministry of finance has not yet released any cash for the second Niger bridge, so no money was returned.
“Three phases of early works of piling and foundation were approved and financed by the previous government in the hope that a concession will finally be issued, which has not happened because concessionaires have not been able to raise finance.
“The continuation of early works IV could not start in May 2016 when the budget was passed because of high water level in the River Niger in the rainy season.
“The contract was only approved by the federal executive council in the first quarter of 2017 and the contractor is awaiting payment.
“In any event, allegations of half-truth is only a flawed response to the constitutional and developmental issues that have plagued Nigeria from 1999 about how to budget for the critical infrastructure in Nigeria.
“It shows the conflict between the executive that wants to build big federal highways; bridges; power plants; rail; and dams on one hand and parliament that wants to do small things like boreholes, health centers, street lights and supplying grinding machines.
“As long as budgets planned to deliver life-changing infrastructure are cut into small pieces, Nigeria will continue to have small projects that are not life-changing, and big projects that have not been completed in 17 years.
“If a project would cost N15 billion and the contractor gets only a fraction of that, then things won’t move. Success should be defined by how many projects an administration is able to complete or set on the path of irreversible completion and not how many poorly funded contracts are awarded.
“There is no fallacy or half-truth in the allegation that the budgets were reduced. The spokespersons admitted this much and now sought to rationalise it by a concession or financing arrangement that has failed to build the road since 2006. The biggest momentum seen on the road was in 2016.”

Boko Haram Leader Releases Video Revealing Abduction Of Policewomen

Following SaharaReporter’s exclusive June 20 report on a vicious Boko Haram attack on a joint police/military convoy near Maiduguri which embarrassed and caught dozens of policemen off guard, the leadership of the militant group has released a video through journalist Ahmad Salkida of Salkida.com.
In the video, in which Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau speaks for about 10 minutes, the group reveals that several female officers were abducted during the raid. His speech is then followed by scenes of the fierce attack, which took place on the Maiduguri-Damboa road.

In the 17 minutes and 25 seconds video, graphic contents of one of the terror victims are shown, as well as images of another set of victims perhaps about to be beheaded, in scenes similar to previous Boko Haram propaganda videos.

The footage shows only still images of the abducted women, but no video. Shekau, holding a chewing stick (miswak) instead of a microphone, takes credit for the attack and in his usual manner, chides Nigerian security officials for lying that Boko Haram has been defeated.
“I want to tell you that we are the one that attacked the convoy, here are the vehicles for all to witness, we are the ones that abducted the female police officers, in fact, they are senior female police officers,” he brags. “What we did is nothing when compared to our women, children, and friends that have been wiped out or arrested for many years by the Nigerian government. We only abducted them to serve as slaves to us.”
